1. In Jesus' time, the Jewish people had certain expectations of how the Messiah should act. We too have expectations of who we think Jesus is and how He should act - what are some of the expectations that you have?
2. Luke chapter 2 talks about how the shepherds were the first ones to hear about the birth of Jesus. These shepherds weren't impressive people and were looked over by much of society. How have you seen God include and care for you (or others) when everyone else seemed to overlook you?
3. In John 13 we read about Jesus assuming the role of a servant and washing his disciples' feet. How has God met you in the midst of serving others?
4. Later on in that chapter we see that Peter had a hard time receiving the love Jesus was extending to him. What keeps you from receiving Jesus?
Action Steps
1. What is one gift of presence you can give this Christmas?
2. In light of today's message on serving others, take a step in that direction and join a serving team for one (or more) of the Christmas services.
Pray
Holy, holy, holy are You - God almighty. We will never get over the grace and love that You extend to us. Even in the times where it is hard for us to receive such generosity, may we trust You enough to humbly accept it. And then we ask that you give us the courage to extend that same grace and love to others. Show us the next steps to take to demonstrate grace, loving everyone who comes across our paths, and all the while pointing back to Jesus. We love you and pray in the everlasting name of Jesus. Amen.
