What do you know or what were you taught about angels growing up?
What are some things that are so vast or large that it is difficult to comprehend?
Discuss
1. Are you more likely to try and cram God into what you can fully understand about Him, or do you pull away from his vastness because it's too difficult to comprehend?
2. John 1:2-3 says "He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." John is saying that Jesus is eternal and was there when the world came into existence. How do you reconcile that with the fact that He came to earth as an actual person?
3. The angels, who live in the presence of God's glory, are fascinated by us and how God sent Jesus to enter our story as a human. How does it shape your thoughts about how much God loves us when you think about how the angels are longing to understand why God would go to such great lengths to rescue humanity?
4. Does the word "advent" take on new meaning knowing that a second advent is coming and that, if you believe in who He is, Jesus has carved your name on His palms?
Action Steps
1. Read the Christmas Story from Luke 2:1-21. As you read about the birth of Jesus, consider the story through the lens that Jesus is eternal and has existed from the beginning of time.
2. Make plans to attend the Artisan Market Friday, Dec. 6th @ 6 PM at the Chesterfield Campus.
Pray
Father - we honor Your name and how vast You are. Thank You for sending Your son, Jesus, into the story to rescue us from our rebellion. We are so grateful that He came and is coming back again. As we enter into this Christmas season, remind us again why the angels sang and just how much You love us. We want to worship You fully just as they did so many years ago - Gloria en excelsis deo. Amen!
