The Richer Young Ruler

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."

Mark 10:13-15

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good-except God alone. You know the commandments . . ."  "Teacher," he declared, "all of these I have kept since I was a boy." Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." At this, the man's face fell. He went away sad because he had great wealth.

But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the Kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "With man, this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Mark 10:17-27

There's just one thing infants are really good at, one thing they can do better than all the rest of us . . . They are perfectly wonderful receivers.

Reflect

What is the "it" you are looking for? What from this weekend's message challenged you? How do we give "lip service" to good with the way we live our lives? What jumped out at you from Matt's story in the video? When in life have you felt empty and in need of Jesus? What idols do you need to let go of that keep you from following Jesus? What steps can you take to be a perfectly wonderful receiver this week?
