A Day in the Life

Read Mark 1:21-28 (ESV)

Mark is a fast-paced gospel which emphasizes the works of Jesus. With the word "immediately" used throughout the book, and at least 10 times in chapter one alone, Mark takes us from one event to another quickly.

Mark shows Jesus' power and authority throughout the gospel.

DISCUSSION:

How was Jesus' teaching different from that of the scribes?

How did the evil spirit describe Jesus and why?

What does Jesus command of the evil spirit?

How do we deal with evil in the world?

As believers, we can be influenced by evil.

DISCUSSION:

Discuss some ways this can happen. (Racism, Genocide, Bullying, Human Trafficking, Abuse, etc)

How can we overcome the influence of evil in our lives?

"You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." 1 John 4:4

DISCUSSION:

How can we make this scripture personal?

Jesus shows us his power and authority by  commanding the evil spirit to come out - and the evil spirit obeys.

Discuss the various names of Jesus and how each can be applied to our lives.

Christ the king, Rabbi, Savior, Adonai, Messiah, The one who heals

Read Mark 1:29-35

DISCUSSION:

What are some things that you noticed in these passages?

    Do miracles still happen today?

What are some warning signs of false healing today that we need to pay attention to?

Are we careful not to take scripture out of context?

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."  James 5:16

DISCUSSION:

    Discuss this verse

Sometimes God chooses not to heal. How do we feel when this happens to us or a loved one?

Discuss verses 32-34: When did this occur?

    How many were being healed?

Why did Jesus not permit the demons to say who He was?

If Jesus had this kind of authority then, does He still?

    What can He do now?

Evil doesn't look like evil until it has accomplished its goal.

Reflect

What are you asking God to do in your own personal life?
