Baptism 2018

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Matthew 28:19-20

. . . but when they believed, they were baptized, men and women . . .

Acts 8:12

. . . having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Colossians 2:12

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Romans 6:4

Baptism consists of getting dunked or sprinkled . . . Dunking is a better symbol, however. Going under symbolizes the end of your old life. Coming up again symbolizes the beginning in you of something strange and new and hopeful. You can breathe again.

Reflect

1. Growing up, what did you hear about baptism? 2. What questions do you have about baptism? 3. What does grace mean to you? How have you experienced God's grace in your life? 4. What jumped out at you from the Scripture passages this weekend? 5. Do you expect too much or too little of baptism? 6. If you've been baptized, how does baptism change the way that you live this week?
