Message: Sowing and Reaping

Speaker: Tim Bounds

Service Date: August 21, 2022 Plain Print Version

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. Matthew 11:28-30

This is the invitation from Jesus. We can come to him and he will teach us these unforced rhythms of grace. This is the promise of life with him.

DISCUSSION:

-How well are you living into this invitation real rest?

-What steps can you take to learn these unforced rhythms of grace?

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,

a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,

a times to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,

a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,

a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,

a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.    Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

The writer here is saying that the spiritual life, we would say a life with Jesus, doesn't mean a life without trouble. It doesn't mean a life without sorrow, and at time really hard.  We will experience both joy and sorrow in this life. The wisdom in the Bible tells us that God is good and faithful even during the difficult seasons.

DISCUSSION:

-Describe the season you are walking through right now.

-Where to you see God showing up in the midst of that season?

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9

Let's not grow weary. The wisdom of scripture tells us that in this life we will experience all the highs and all the lows that life can bring us. But it tells us that in the middle of it all is a good God who tells us that we can come to him. We can work alongside him. And if we do, we will reap a harvest.
