Message: Merely Amazed isn't the Point

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who build his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.   Matthew 7:24-29

You are building something. Every choice you make stacks up on other choices you have made.

For both the wise man and the foolish man the rain came and the streams rose. The storms of life will come. The stood or fell depending on the foundation.

DISCUSSION:

-Discuss how every decision we make is building a foundation.

-How do we build a foundation that will survive the storms of life?

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

DISCUSSION:

-Discuss what it means for the peace of God to guard your heart and mind.

-Have you experienced that peace in the storms of life?

An idea about God that doesn't lead to action isn't faith, it's just an idea.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.  James 1:22

DISCUSSION:

-What keep us from taking action?

-What is the next step of surrender?

The practice of gratitude gives your heart peace.

DISCUSSION:

-How can you be intentional about being grateful?

With higher emotional intelligence, it simply takes less effort to be grateful.
