Message: Following the Example of One

Speaker: Greg Holder

Service Date: May 31, 2020 Plain Print Version

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. - Hebrews 12:1-2

“Hope is what you try one more time. Hope is why some of you are here today. And now it’s our turn—Democrats and Republicans, city and county, young and old, rich and not so much. If we follow Jesus, if we’re disciples, one of our traits will be to be the kinds of people who move in and stand up and not give up. We can still be the change agents in this violent and vicious world. We can do this for our children’s children. All of our children’s children.”

Discussion

Where are your eyes fixed right now? How are you struggling with the deep divides we’re experiencing in our society? Are you tired, discouraged, frustrated? Are you able to lovingly express those feelings? Do you believe that God wants to do something different in our broken world through the church in the years to come? Are you able to dream big dreams for the future and ask yourself…what if…?

Do

How can you start today to reflect Jesus and make a positive difference in your world with family, coworkers, neighbors and people who may be very different than you?

Part of being a disciple is practicing what you do know. Are you willing to reach out to friends of color and ask how they are doing and listen to their answer?
