Mark 14

In the longest chapter of the book of Mark, we are taken from the house in Bethany to Peter's denial of Jesus.

Read Mark 14:1-9

What was the importance of the broken vial of pure nard?

What did Mary do with the perfume and why?

Duscuss the conversation at the house in Bethany - who was complaining?

What was the motive behind the complaints?

Who was the main culprit of the complaints and what did he say and do?

How did Jesus respond to the complaints?

APPLICATION

Why do we give extravagant gifts?

Read Mark 1:10-11

Why did Judas go to the chief priests.

APPLICATION

There is nothing worse than being betrayed by a friend.

Discuss when you have been betrayed, how you felt, and your reaction.

Judas was one of the men closest to Jesus.  Did he forget all Jesus had taught him?

Do we forget all we know about Jesus and what He has taught us?

Read Mark 14:12-21

Discuss the Feast of Passover and Unleavened Bread.

Why were these feasts celebrated?

Read Exodus 12 and 13

The celebration of the Passover meal was shared by Jesus with His disciples.

Jesus tells His disciples what is going to happen to Him and their response.

Why does Jesus not mention the betrayer's name?

Read Mark 14:27

Jesus tells His disciples that once He is betrayed, they (disciples) will scatter - they will deny Him. What happens in these verses.  Do they scatter?  Why?

What does Jesus predict Peter will do and what is Peter's response?

Discuss what Peter does.

APPLICATION

Do we scatter when things get tough for us?

Discuss a time in your life when you Followed.

Disccus a time in your life when you Failed to Follow

"How you live your life becomes the new normal"  How can we apply grace to this statement?

Is Jesus enough for any circumstance that you might face in your life?

"WE DON'T KNOW THAT JESUS IS ALL WE NEED UNTIL JESUS IS ALL WE HAVE"
