Message: Confronting Sin

Review the story of David and Bathsheba:

2 Samuel 11:1 - 2 Samuel 12:13

DISCUSSION:

What do we learn from David's life about being idle and susceptible to sin?

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23

What are practical ways that we can guard our hearts?

Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord" 2 Samuel 7:13

DISCUSSION:

David immediately recognized and confessed his sin. What are ways that we tend to respond when we are "caught" are "confronted" with our sin?

What is the danger in responding any way except with acknowledgement and confession?

...but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:14-15

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray an seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

David's story is our story. It is your story.

DISCUSSION:

In the past have you been honest and quick to admit your sin or have you denied your sin and tried to cover it up?

Do you have a "Nathan" in your life? If not, what steps can you take to find someone like that to speak truth to you?

What are your next steps after hearing this series?

Jesus is the fulfillment of all of God's promises.

Read Psalm 51 this week and let David's prayer become your prayer.

Romans 3:23

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Are there ways that you have hidden or denied your sin? Are there steps you need to take to repent, confess, and make things right in your life with God and possibly other people?
